The driver although not maybe the hirer is also, along with the hirer, bound by all the terms and conditions of this hire agreement and is personally responsible for the entertainment system in the vehicle as it is not covered by our insurance. Only persons that have signed and been added to our insurance may drive this vehicle. It is the responsibility of the hirer(s) to ensure no one else takes control of the vehicle. Any damage not reported at or during the time of the hire, the hirer will be held fully responsible for.
If the hirer needs us to provide a driver, the hirer is still responsible for the damage, and damage deposit, not the driver (unless arranged otherwise between both parties). 


The minimum charge is one day unless previously arranged. The hire period is from 10:00 am to 9:00 am next morning unless previously agreed.


The minimum age for hiring is 25 years old. Our insurance company may consider from 23 years old however different terms will apply, subject to the final decision of the insurance company usually a higher excess. If you are under 25 this must be pre checked. 

A valid licence (plus a copy of each side to be submitted through our ‘Hire Form’) must be produced in all cases, for every driver on each hire.

All drivers must have a minimum 2 years driving experience, with no major endorsements. Our insurance company must be notified of all endorsements, past and present.

DVLA check code must be submitted through the ‘Hire Form’. This only applies to drivers who hold a UK British Licence. All other licences must be pre checked by our insurance company.


A fully comprehensive insurance is included in the charges with an excess of £1200+VAT. In the event of any damage, the hirer must pay the excess. In addition to the UK, the insurance applies to any country that is a member of the European Union with prior notice. This attracts a surcharge per day. (See European Insurance Surcharge Below). Indemnity provided under this policy is extended to cover any insured vehicle whilst let out on hire subject to the following conditions:-

1) Prior to the commencement of any hire the Insured (Grey Tigertours Ltd shall have satisfied the following;

  1. Inspected the driving licence of the hirer and any other permitted driver.
  2. Driver is not under the age of 25 or over 75 years of age.
  3. Driver has held a full UK or EU licence for a minimum of two years.
  4. Driver has not had their licence suspended for any period within the last three years.
  5. Driver has not been involved in more than one fault incident within the last three years.
  6. Driver has no more than two convictions with a maximum of 3 points per conviction.
  7. Driver has not obtained a BA,DD or UT conviction

2) The insured vehicle shall only be let out on hire to a person who has signed and completed a rental agreement or the hirer/driver proposal for each period of hire. This can be done digitally. 

3) The insured shall have completed , prior to releasing vehicle, identity checks

including copies of all drivers licences, 2 utility bills dated within three months of the hire and the deposit being taken by a clear and traceable means such as a debit or credit card or cleared bank transfer.

6) The Insured vehicle shall not be used for the carriage of goods of an explosive, dangerous or hazardous nature.

Our insurance company will not cover theft or damage to hirer’s personal belongings or electronic/musical equipment. All items left and/or stored overnight in the vehicle are left there at the hirer’s own risk. We are not responsible for any loss or damage to the hirer’s belongings or equipment at any point, before, during or after the hire period.


A daily European insurance surcharge will be levied for all vehicles taken to mainland Europe. All European travel must be pre-approved with us and insurance surcharges paid in full before the hire commences.


In the event of a breakdown or accident the hirer must notify us immediately. The hirer must not carry out any repairs to the vehicle whilst on the road without notifying us first. Our chosen recovery will endeavour to repair roadside, otherwise will recover the vehicle to the nearest garage for repair. This service will not allow the hirer to continue to their destination and then to a repair centre.


We request the vehicle to be returned with the equivalent amount of fuel as at the time of the check of the vehicle before it left our depot. Any shortfall will be charged and deducted from the deposit. Please note a full tank of fuel is £100 as of March 2019.


Every effort will be made to supply the vehicle requested. However, we reserve the right to substitute a similar vehicle should it be necessary. We reserve the right to cancel a hire due to unforeseen circumstances, i.e. vehicle damaged or broken down.


We recommend that our customers make a reservation by telephone, or email. All bookings must be confirmed in advance of the hire.


Full hire payment will be taken if the hire is cancelled within 7 days of the start of the hire period. We reserve the right to charge a 50% cancellation charge on any bookings longer than 1 week that are cancelled within 1 week of the hire (depending on circumstance).

For hires from 1-7 days we reserve the right to charge the full amount of the hire unless the hire is cancelled within 48 hours of the start date.


Before the rental starts we require the following:

  1. The total hire charge to cover the hire period. We accept all major credit/debit cards and American Express (6% surcharge for handling fees)
  2. A deposit of £950+VAT on Splitter Bus by way cleared cheque funds or credit/debit card/cash to cover the insurance excess. The deposit will be returned within the day the vehicle has been returned and checked back assuming the vehicle is returned in the same condition as issued and no fines have been incurred during the hire. All hire charges are subject to VAT.


It is important if you wish to extend the hire period you contact Grey Tigertours Ltd office before the end of the original hire period. Any extensions must be paid in advance.


The hirer is responsible for maintaining the correct levels of oil and water during the hired period. Any damage caused by failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of the deposit. Any tyre, wheel or glass damage is also the hirer’s responsibility and will also be deducted from the deposit. The recovery service used will charge for changing tyres.


Delivery and collection may be made by prior arrangement and will be subject to a surcharge, depending on location.


A £65+VAT Surcharge will be levied if the vehicle is not returned in the clean and appropriate state in which it was delivered/collected. A higher rate of £150 will apply if there’s excessive mud in floor/walls/ceiling.


If the vehicle is returned later than the previously agreed time and date, additional day’s hire will be charged. You will also be charged for any loss of hire Grey Tigertours Ltd incurs unless prearranged.


The hirer is responsible for the entertainment system included in the vehicle while on hire (radio, Playstation, music player, tv, etc). If any of these gets stolen, the hirer is responsible for its replacement plus the repair of any damage caused to the vehicle during robbery (i.e. damaged windows, damage to dash and locks, etc). These cost will be deducted from the £950 deposit. If the costs are higher than £950 the hirer(s) will be responsible for the difference.


If the engine of the vehicle is damaged or destroyed whilst in the possession of the hirer and said damage is a direct result of negligence on behalf of the hirer (which will be established by an independent source), the hirer will be responsible for the full cost of repairing the damage or a replacement engine.


Any damage incurred to a hired trailer will not be covered under the insurance and the hirer will be held responsible for the full cost of repairing the damage.


The hirer is responsible for all speeding and parking fines, including the Dart Charge and fines resulting in non-payment of said charges and fines. These charges will be deducted from the deposit or credit card left for deposit (when the fine comes after the deposit has been returned). The admin fee to represent the fine under the drive’s name is £20+VAT.


Grey Tigertours Ltd does not accept any responsibility for ANY financial loss as a result of a vehicle failure or punctures. Any financial loss incurred will be the responsibility of the hirers.
